RETIREMENT HOUSING OVERVIEW:
Needs and Preferences
- Before we meet we will need to ask you to tell us a little about yourself so we can make the best use of your time. This can be done via either telephone or e-mail - whichever you prefer.
- At the meeting, we will spend some time discussing your needs and wishes, covering a range of considerations such as: family members, your health, current housing, reasons for considering a change, preliminary financial information, etc. The clearer the picture we get, the more relevant we can make the information we give you.
- We will help you identify and explore some of the issues involved in making the decision to move, including lifestyle, community, health and financial considerations.
Accommodation options
- We will outline the different types of retirement accommodation and their features, and discuss which may be most suited to you. We will also provide you with examples of the costs of each, and talk about some of the risks and benefits of each housing type.
- If relevant, we will also outline the types of services that can be provided in your own home.
- Once you have a preferred option in mind, we can discuss any questions or concerns you may have in greater depth.
Finding suitable accommodation
- Retirelocate can outline the process, the steps involved, the application process, and the many practical issues you need to be aware of. We will also let you know about the services available to make this process as smooth as possible.
BUDGET PREPARATION:
Retirelocate can assist in preparing a budget showing the approximate payments required for your preferred accommodation option, allowing you to plan your finances for the move to retirement housing. The budget will include initial and ongoing costs and any payments due upon departure from the accommodation.
ORIENTATION:
This informative look at different types of retirement housing will provide you with a better understanding of what is available and what you may prefer before you make your decision. Retirelocate will assist you in:
- Discussing your current circumstances (including why you are giving thought to a possible move) in deciding the most appropriate places to visit.
- Arranging appointments at which you will be given a guided tour of each facility.
- Collecting you from your home, driving to each location, and returning you home afterwards.
- Preparing a written summary of each of the places you have seen.
The orientation will probably take around 2 – 4 hours.
HOME SEARCH SELECTION:
Retirelocate's HomeSearch service will ensure that you find the type of retirement housing home that best meets your needs. Please let us know the extent of assistance you would like us to provide. This service includes:
- Discussing your current circumstances (including why you are giving thought to a possible move) in deciding the most appropriate places to visit.
- Discussing alternatives that may be relevant to you, the features and costs of those alternatives and possible advantages and disadvantages that need to be considered.
- Research of available retirement housing places and preparation of a shortlist which we will then discuss with you.
- Arranging appointments at which you will be given a guided tour of each facility.
- Collecting you from your home, driving to each location, and returning you home afterwards.
- Discussing with you (and any nominated friends &/or family) your impressions of the places you have seen, obtaining the answers to any further questions you may have, and preparing a written summary of each of the places you have seen.
- Commencing the application process on your behalf once a decision has been reached, including the lodgement of forms, and monitoring of the submission until your application is accepted and a date fixed for your move. If required, we will also review all documentation, and comment on any features that are unusual (we also recommend that you have the documents reviewed by a solicitor).
MOVE MANAGEMENT:
Retirelocate can guide you through all the steps involved in moving from your current home and settling in your new home. We can relieve you of the worry and stress by organising every step in the process, and helping to ensure there are no nasty surprises or additional costs! Our assistance would include:

- Going through checklists to identify and plan what needs to be done, and working out a timetable covering things such as sorting out and listing your belongings, working out what you will take to your new home, what to sell, give away, etc.
- Assistance in looking at the options for your current home, and how to implement your preferred option, including working out your finances, and budgeting for the move.
- Identifying people or organisations that may be helpful to you (eg real estate agents, auctioneer, solicitor, accountant, financial planner) in order to protect your interests, and achieve the best results for you.
- Help with any documents and formalities that may be necessary.
Retirelocate can manage part or all of this process for you, and our assistance can include:
